Floorazzo
is an environmentally friendly business.
- We
recycle thousands of gallons of water every day. Water
used during the manufacturing process is collected rain water
(permit issued by EPA) and city water. LEED-CI
Site Selection 1.G, H and J captured rainwater on site,
"reduction of 20% in water use requirement" (1-2 points);
and LEED-CI Water Efficiency 1.1 and 1.2: "Water
Use Reduction. Based on tenant occupancy, employ strategies
that use 20 (or 30%) less water than water baseline for tenant
space" (1-2 points) or LEED 3.1 and 3.2 Water Efficiency
"Maximize water efficiency within buildings to reduce the
burden on municipal water supply and wastewater systems. Employ
strategies that in aggregate use 20 (or 30%) less water than
the water use baseline calculated for the building" (1-2
points)".
-
Embodied
Energy:
Local building materials and employment. We are only 8 miles
from the quarry where 99% of the marble that we use comes
from. This means less embodied energy in the product as well
as helping to keep the local economy more sustainable. Our
manufacturing process is not energy intensive using electricity
and natural gas at a cost of less than 6 cents per square
foot of product produced. LEED
Materials and Resources 5.1 and 5.2 Regional Materials.
(1-2 points) "Use building materials or products that
have been extracted, harvested or recovered, as well as manufactured,
within 500 miles of the project site
.. 10-20% based
on cost".
-
The
entire workforce all live within 15 miles of the plant.
We have a future project to add shower facilities to meet
LEED alternative transportation as in LEED Sustainable
Sites 4.2 Alternative Transportation: Bicycle Storage
and Changing Rooms (1 Point). "Reduce pollution and land
development impacts from automobile use. Design building with
transportation amenities such as bicycle racks and showering/changing
facilities"
-
Building
reuse and location.
The existing building used to be a dog food
plant and is now reused at the Floorazzo manufacturing facility.
The beautifully constructed wood roof is 100 years old and
made from 2 inch pine. 95% of the existing building structure
was maintained as per LEED
Materials & Resources 1.1 and 1.2 Building Reuse.
"Extend the life cycle of existing building stock, conserve
resources, retain cultural resources, reduce waste and reduce
environmental impacts of new buildings as they relate to materials
manufacturing and transport".
-
Shared
Spaces. To
eliminate the need for more buildings to be constructed, space
not currently needed for Floorazzo manufacturing is used by
other local small businesses.
-
Walkability
in town.
Based on LEED Sustainable
Site Development 2. Density and Community Connectivity.
Floorazzo site has 17 basic services within ½ mile.
"Building is located within ½ mile of at least
10 basic services. "(Bank, Convenience Store, Fire Station,
Place of Worship, Beauty, Hardware, Laundry, Library, Medical/Dental,
Senior Care, Park, Pharmacy, Post Office, Restaurant, Supermarket,
Fitness Center, Museum)"
