in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System
- Floorazzo
Tile is long lasting and durable.
Our standard marble tile is guaranteed for 20 years, but Floorazzo
is extremely durable and in most cases will last the life of
the building. The tiles are made out of a Polyester Resin, Calcium
Carbonate and Marble Chips. The finished product is 75% stone
and 25% resin. The polyester resin is in the form of a liquid,
the calcium carbonate in the form of chalk powder and the marble
chips are the same as used in the poured in place industry.
The raw material is mixed with a coloring pigment and cast in
a 25 by 50 inch mold. After hardening the individual casting
is ground smooth on the top and bottom. Then it is polished
on the top side and cut into two 24" by 24" tiles.
- Recycled
materials.
Our Glass product "GEM line" uses 36% recycled glass
materials, including post-consumer recycled glass. 18% is purchased
from our supplier as a recycled product. The other 18% is the
backfill glass - we recycle our own waste marble chips for the
backfill. LEED Materials and
Resources 3.1 and 3.2 Materials
Reuse - 5% and 10% (1-2 points) "Reuse building materials
and products to reduce demand for virgin materials and to reduce
waste. "Use salvaged, refurbished or reused materials such
that the sum of these materials constitutes at least 5% (or
10%), based on cost, of the total value of materials on the
project". LEED Materials and Resources 4.1 and 4.2
Recycled Content - 10% and 20% (1-2 points). "Increase
demand for building products that have incorporated recycled
content material, thereby reducing the impacts resulting from
extraction and processing of virgin materials". LEED
Innovation in Design 1.1 to 1.4 (1-4 points) "for exceptional
performance above the requirements set by the LEED for New Construction
Green Building Rating System and/or innovative performance in
Green Building categories notspecifically addressed by the LEED
for New Construction Green Building Rating System".
- Recycling.
All
of our scrap is ground up and recycled back into the product.
In addition, if you ever want to change the color or you are
remodeling, you can send the tile back to us for recycling into
new cast tile. The materials are totally inert and we can grind
up the tile and use again in another application. Thus eliminating
the need for it to go to the landfill. LEED
Materials and Resources 2.1 and 2.2
(1-2 points) "Divert construction and demolition debris
from disposal in landfills and incinerators. Redirect recyclable
recovered resources back to the manufacturing process. Recycle
and/or salvage at least 50% (or 75%) of non-hazardous construction
and demolition debris" LEED Materials and Resources
1.1 and 1.2 Building Reuse
floors. "Extend the
life cycle of existing building stock, conserve resources, retain
cultural resources, reduce waste and reduce environmental impacts
of new buildings as they relate to materials manufacturing and
transport. Maintain 75% (or 95%) of existing building structure."
LEED Materials and Resources 1.3 Building Reuse. "Maintain
50% of Interior" Extend life cycle of existing building
stock
. Use existing interior non-structural elements in
at least 50% of the completed building

Want
even greener? We offer a substitute
for the standard Calcium Carbonate resin filler by creating
our own grinding dust from ground up tile. This ground up
tile can then be used as filler resin instead of Calcium Carbonate.
Currently, this costs about 50 cents more per foot because
of the additional labor, but the product looks and performs
to the same high standards. We will be automating this process
with new equipment in the future to keep costs down. When
we make this substitution, the recycled content of the product
goes to this:
Standard marble
25% recycled material
Glass 61% recycled material
LEED Innovation
in Design 1.1 to 1.4 (1-4 points)
"for exceptional performance above the requirements set
by the LEED for New Construction Green Building Rating System
and/or innovative performance in Green Building categories not
specifically addressed by the LEED for New Construction Green
Building Rating System".
- Indoor
Air Quality/VOC:
Both our Glass and Marble products are 1/8" or 3/16"
thick so use half of the resin that poured in place 3/8"
Terrazzo tile uses. The finished tile is totally inert with
no off-gassing. We recommend using Mapei ECO 350 as adhesive
when installing the tile in your building. LEED
Environmental Quality 4.1: Low-Emitting
Materials: Adhesives & Sealants. (1 Point) "Reduce
the quantity of indoor air contaminants that are odorous, irritating
and/or harmful to the comfort and well-being of installers and
occupants"
- Cleaning.
No harsh chemicals required to clean Floorazzo - water and vinegar
standard cleaning for home applications.

LEED Why Certify?
There are many reasons why LEED project
certification can be an asset:
- Be recognized
for your commitment to environmental issues in your community, your
organization (including stockholders), and your industry;
- Receive
third party validation of achievement;
- Qualify
for a growing array of state & local government initiatives;
- Receive
marketing exposure through USGBC Web site, Greenbuild conference,
case studies, and media announcements.
